ADOLESCENT SUICIDE AWARENESS
Distress Centre Durham offers an Adolescent Suicide Awareness Presentation to Durham Region secondary schools. This interactive presentation focuses on:
- identifying the “stressors” adolescents currently face
- recognizing the “symptoms” of a suicidal individual
- developing a “support network” for those at risk and those who are concerned about someone at risk
The Distress Centre Durham Adolescent Suicide Awareness Program is available free of charge and is delivered by specially trained staff and volunteers, during a class period to the class or classes selected by each secondary school.
A teacher “Amy” from J. Clarke Richardson Collegiate writes in her evaluation of the presentation said:
“This was my first time seeing the presentation – so I was unsure what to expect – I was pleasantly surprised! A very well organized presentation – great interaction with students & use of visual aids. I am pleased to have experts to touch on this very important topic with our students. The presentation fits in very well with the Adolescence section of our course. I hope to incorporate this presentation into our unit again”.
